Breaking Barriers:
DEI for Media Leaders

Google, in partnership with Avtar, presents a groundbreaking Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) training program tailored for media leaders, empowering them to incorporate DEI as a practical, long-term strategic and impactful priority for their organizations.

Why are we doing this?

Google and Kantar’s study on the State of Gender Diversity in Media highlights the skewed representation in media organizations and found that women are underrepresented, accounting for only 28% of the workforce. Additionally, 75% of surveyed women reported facing workplace inequality due to stereotypes, limited career growth, and a lack of supportive policies and programs. This impacts their mental health and well-being. Detailed report here.

Building on the research findings, we aim to continue our DEI efforts by promoting DEI as both a normative and business imperative. We have therefore worked together to bring this DEI program to drive cultural change, foster accountability, and sustain DEI efforts.

Why does DEI matter?

Media organizations must be diverse, inclusive, and have voices from across communities to fairly report on society and be sustainable businesses. As leaders, you have a unique opportunity to drive change and set the stage for more equitable representation and opportunities.

Embracing DEI in organizations offers positive outcomes for  business, audience, and product. It fosters creativity and innovation, produces inclusive content that engages a wider audience, and creates products that are accessible to all. Additionally, DEI helps expand  brand reputation and attract top talent.
